Love your sessions, tried playing along Lyin Eyes, but it not standard tuning, it seems down you have a standard version.

    • alan says:

Cheers John, not yet – will be posting a version in standard tuning with my son in the next few weeks πŸ™‚

Thanks for all your videos Alan. They are great and easy to follow.

  6. Rogerio Diniz says:

    Hello, Alan.
I have already been in touch with you concerning the song “Suicide is painless”. One question about it: regarding your tutos, it seems to me that you usually change the chord on the LAST bar/arrow of the rythm group (on the left top of the videos). Here in France we usually change it on the first bar… Is it right ? Thanks !

    • alan says:

Hi Rogerio, I tend to change on an upstroke (unless the strumming pattern is fixed for the song – like Wonderwall etc.) because it give the songs a “Swing” type feel which I like – its just personal though; both methods work fine πŸ™‚

  7. MIROCHE says:

    Dear Alan Robinson,
Thank you very much for your talent and energy. Thank you for your smart website and all your wonderful guitar proposals. Thank you for all your work!
I went back to the guitar, this time electro acoustic. I took classical guitar lessons and sang at the Conservatory. I’m a soprano.
I also try to pass on to my son the taste for singing and the guitar.
Maybe you can take a look at a few pieces, for example:
Jeanne Moreau, “the whirlwind of life”
    “Small streams make great rivers”
Edith Piaf, “The Hymn to Love”
Joe Dassin, “Whistling on the Hill”
    Emilie Simon, album “Mue”
Frankie Laine, “Gunfight at the Ok Corral”
    … ..

  8. john krause says:

hi Mr Alan , it’s a very great work .
i’m beginner , I can play the rhythms, but I have a problem, I can not play and sing at the same time .i want ask u , if it’s normal for begineers , and how can i overcome that . thank uu

    • alan says:

Hi, thank you for your kind words.
It is definately normal to have trouble singing and playing at the same time when you first start. It will help if you really learn the lyrics, chords and rhythm of the song individually before bringing them all together. Then, when you do; play the song slowly (including singing) and gradually bring it up to speed so you know what lyric the chord change occurs on. I create a songsheet for every new song I want to learn and add the chords directly above the lyric where the change occurs (I have lots of these on this site).
      I hope this helps you.
All the best with your playing.
      Alan πŸ™‚

  62. Brandon Stanley says:

wow thanks for the great videos. My strumming is my biggest issue, and I cant seem to get that muted strum in :/ songs (have you ever seen the rain and Stand by me ) do you have a tutorial on strumming including that muted strum?

    • alan says:

      Hi there.
Thanks for your kind words, I have not created a palm muting video but I can give you a bit of advice; the trick is to place your palm or the edge of your hand over all the strings a fraction of a second before you run the pick over them. It took me about two weeks of practicing about 10 minutes a day to get it so no other strings ring out when you make the hit with the pick so don’t get too dispondent; it really is just a question of practice. Everybody’s hand shape is different so experiment where best to place yours to mute the strings; if you notice, when muting I hold the pick in between my thumb and index finger and spread my other fingers open to better “catch” the strings. Don’t be afraid to experiment, there are no hard and fast rules. I hope this helps.
      Alan πŸ™‚

      • Brandon Stanley says:

Thanks spreading my hand out a little really helped. I would usually only mute half the strings, now that I have spread my pinky out I get them all. Great advice, I am definitely referring you to all of the new musicians I know/meet. Very informative videos and personal advice. Keep it rolling, we appreciate it.

  63. Nuf says:
